WHAT WE'RE BUILDING
AIC is building on three levels: programs, community, and ultimately the literal buildings of a residential neighborhood.
-
The foundation is our partner community: adults with intellectual and related disabilities. They help decide what we build and how we build it.
-
The pillars are our programs: jobs, health and wellness, transportation, and more to come.
-
The bricks are the volunteers, donors, and partners who do the work with us.
HOW WE BUILD
AIC is designing its programs and its community with the people it works alongside, not for them. What future residents want in their forever home will come from them, not from a plan handed down from the board.
Everything we do is forward-thinking and designed to support our program participants and future residents with lifelong independence and security.
HOUSING VISION
AIC will build a neighborhood-style residential community. Most of it will be homes for one or two people, with a smaller number of four-person units, as well as a clubhouse and shared amenities. AIC's partner community, adults with intellectual and related disabilities, will be able to age in place there, and these future residents are going to help design it.
This project is going to take time, a lot of work, some luck, and of course funding. Come build with us!
OUR PROGRAMS
We have a few programs that are already in development:
-
Employment & Vocational Support: pathways to meaningful, gainful, and sustainable employment.
-
Health & Wellness: helping people stay active and well now, with an eye toward easier access to the medical and related services that can be hard to reach otherwise.
-
Transportation: a rideshare-style program built to remove one of the biggest barriers to work and independence—getting there, safely and on an independent schedule.
More programs are on the way!
